590 nm Amber Narrow Spectrum Products
In certain cleanroom applications, longer amber wavelength tails – creating a broader amber-white spectral curve inherent to phosphor converted wavelengths – are not desirable. In these instances, native 590 nm amber lighting is preferred due to its ability to maintain a tight band of the desired amber wavelength.
In certain coastal areas, sea turtle hatchlings, which depend on natural moonlight to successfully navigate from their nests to the ocean, can become confused and disoriented by traditional white lighting, which increases their risk of death. Long wavelengths of native amber light, including 590 nm, protect nesting populations by supporting this nest to ocean transition. Compliance guidelines issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) include lighting and are designed to protect nesting populations along Florida’s coastline, where 90% of sea turtle nesting occurs.
