Challenge
The new Utah State Correctional Facility (USCF) was designed to replace an outdated prison with a modern environment focused on safety, rehabilitation, and operational efficiency. Lighting needed to support a direct-supervision model, enhance visibility for staff, and contribute to a more humane, less institutional atmosphere—all while meeting stringent correctional requirements for durability, tamper resistance, and security across a wide range of housing and support areas.
Solution
Kenall delivered a comprehensive correctional lighting solution engineered for high-abuse environments. Mighty Mac luminaires were installed throughout cells, dayrooms, corridors, medical spaces, and support areas.
Working closely with project partners, Kenall customized light output levels to meet specific performance requirements, including precise nighttime illumination within cells.
Impact
Kenall’s LED correctional luminaires enhance safety for both staff and inmates by delivering consistent, reliable lighting in secure, tamper-resistant housings. The system balances safety, visual comfort, and long-term durability while supporting the facility’s progressive, rehabilitation-focused design goals.
With reduced maintenance needs, high energy efficiency, and proven performance in high-abuse applications, the lighting system provides long-term value for one of the most advanced correctional facilities in the country.
