Corridors & Sally Ports

Sally Ports are transitional areas where detainees are transferred into a correctional facility; therefore, the quality of the lighting can significantly impact safety and efficiency.

Often considered minimum-security areas because detainees are under constant staff supervision, high abuse fixtures are ideal for most sally port applications.

Kenall offers a variety of institutional high abuse fixtures from our Nova™, Sheriff™, and Herculux™ product families that are ideal for sally ports.

Correctional Lighting for Transitional Spaces

The IES recommended lighting level for corridors is 10 to 20 footcandles – levels easily achievable with any number of Kenall’s correctional luminaires.  The specific fixture(s) employed depends upon a number of factors, including levels of security and supervision and ceiling height.

Sally Ports are also transitional areas where detainees are transferred into a correctional facility; therefore, the quality of the lighting can significantly impact safety and efficiency. The IES recommends at least 20 footcandles for indoor sally ports and a minimum of 5 footcandles at their outdoor entrance.
